The cartoon “On A Pedestal” illustrates an ironic scene of the growing trend of society putting STEM subjects “on a pedestal” while belittling the arts, claiming they’re easy or unuseful. The goal of the cartoon is to make the viewer question why society has largely accepted the reverence of STEM at the expense of the arts.

The piece “Slam Dunk” comments on the plans for the construction of a 76ers arena near Philadelphia’s beloved Chinatown, a revival of previous gentrification. What adds insult to injury is the realization that this attack on Philadelphia’s Chinatown is far from the first of its kind — Chinatowns across America have been facing similar displacements for decades.
